A couple of days ago I played a CD (instead of ripping it) directly to Sonos from my B3. I noticed this morning that there was a "CD" artist in the web UI. It seems not to have any albums in it.

On closer inspection it is called ".CD". Viewed using either NAS or ssh, I can see that although ".CD" is at the Artist level, it contains a whole bunch of .wav files instead of an Album folder. The .wav files are all very short -- most are 20 seconds, a few are shorter. So they clearly are the chunks of music that were created as files and sent to the Sonos queue.

But why are they still there? I took out that CD two days ago, and have power-cycled the B3 a couple of times since then. I've also ripped a couple of other CDs.

It seems confusing to have a .CD directory show up in the Artist list, especially as it has no albums and there's no CD in the B3. The behavior of having "tracks" (files) directly in an Artist folder is also anomalous. I was not expecting that to happen.

Fortunately (?) the 167 .wav files in the .CD directory are not picked up on a Scan Disk... (also unexpected).

When addtional CDs are played directly to Sonos, I wonder if the number of files in the directory will continue to grow, or if the old ones will be overwritten or deleted then.  If the number continue to grow, this could eventually pose a problem for people who play CDs to Sonos.  Since these are clearly temporary files, it seems that they should automatically be deleted as they are no longer needed.

I wondered about that myself. Unfortunately I have already deleted the .CD "Artist", so I'll have to try playing two CDs over the next couple of days. 🙂

Hi All,

'Scan Disk' doesn't see the .CD files because they are in a single level folder.  I did a post on how they worked a few months ago.

This folder is not picked up in the Export for the same reason.

So I suppose that they aren't causing any harm, although I would be inclined to  have an automatic deletion of the .CD folder after the CD has been removed.

If you have a link to your earlier post, Peter, I'd like to (re)read it.

What startled (and then annoyed) me is that .CD shows up on the web interface as an "Artist".
